We’re committed to making breast screens as comfortable and accessible as possible.
If you are a woman living with a disability or a chronic health condition, in most cases we can support you to have a breast screen.
BreastScreen SA staff are experienced in assisting women to safely complete their breast screen when adjustments are needed.
Please call us on 13 20 50 to make your booking so we can discuss any support needed.
If you’re unsure whether breast screening is right for you at this time, we encourage you to talk to your doctor.
We’re wheelchair friendly
All our clinics are accessible, including our mobile units. However, there are size and weight restrictions for wheelchairs attending our mobile units, due to the use of a lift to enter the mobile unit. We are also unable to screen women using electric wheelchairs. If you have access requirements, please let us know when booking your appointment, so that we can allow for extra time and staff if needed.
You can have a breast screen while seated in a wheelchair if the arms of the wheelchair can be removed or lowered. If you use a wheelchair, we will allow extra time for your appointment. Please let us know when you phone to book.
Women with limited movement
We support women with limited movement to screen, including women who have poor shoulder mobility, difficulty using stairs, or who use a walker or other walking aid. To best support you, we need to understand how your movement is limited. Please call us on 13 20 50 to make your booking so we can discuss any support needed.
Women with intellectual disability
Assistance is available to support women with intellectual disability.
Please call us on 13 20 50 to discuss your individual needs. Carers are also welcome to speak with us to help support their clients to have a breast screen.
We require consent to be provided at all screening appointments.

Support person for screening
If needed, we encourage women with additional needs to bring a support person such as a carer, friend, or family member to attend your breast screen with you. We are happy to liaise with other services to make any arrangements needed.
Accredited guide and assistance dogs are always welcome. Please advise us when booking.
Sensory friendly clinics
BreastScreen SA offers sensory friendly clinics once a month at different clinic locations.
Our staff working in these clinics have been trained in sensory processing, and we have made modifications to the clinic environment to create a more warm and inviting space for our clients.
