BreastScreen SA is a free health service for women from diverse cultures and language groups. We make it easy and comfortable for every eligible woman to have their regular breast screens.

What is a breast screen?

A breast screen (also known as a mammogram) is an x-ray of the breasts. It can find cancers that are too small to feel.

We want you to feel as comfortable as possible during your breast screen and will treat you with respect and care. Our screening staff are all women, and we provide culturally appropriate and accessible services to women of all backgrounds.

Interpreters

We provide free, culturally appropriate female interpreters to support you at your screening appointment.

A trained interpreter is recommended to ensure that you understand the information that is discussed with you and are able to make informed decisions about your care. You are welcome to bring your partner, relative or friend for support at your appointments.

You can book an appointment through an interpreter by calling 13 14 50 and asking to be connected to BreastScreen SA.

Group bookings

If you would like to come with other women and support each other at your breast screen, we can organise a group booking. We can also provide interpreters to help with group bookings.

Information sessions and community events

We offer free information sessions and can visit community groups and cultural festivals to talk about why having a breast screen is important.
