Risk factors

There are a number of factors that can increase your individual risk of developing breast cancer.

These include personal factors such as:

  • being female
  • ageing
  • if you’ve had a previous diagnosis of breast cancer
  • your family history
  • your individual breast density.

There are also lifestyle factors that contribute towards your risk that you can actively manage and lessen. These risks include:

  • your diet
  • how often you exercise
  • if you smoke regularly
  • if you drink alcohol.

If you want to assess your individual risk, you can speak with your doctor.
