It is important for women of all ages to know what they can do to help find breast cancer early. Early detection of breast cancer improves treatment options and health outcomes for women.

Breast awareness is important for women of all ages. Women should get to know the normal look and feel of their breasts, so that they can detect any new breast changes. If you notice a new breast change, you should speak with your doctor.

Women aged over 40, with no symptoms of breast cancer, are eligible for a free breast screen (screening mammogram) every 2 years. A breast screen can find early cancers that are too small to see or feel, before you or your doctor can detect any changes in your breasts.

A breast screen is not an effective screening test for women under the age of 40.
